In questo volume sono raccolte tre composizioni per pianoforte scritte da Castelnuovo-Tedesco dopo il suo volontario esilio negli USA. In esse, si osserva l’impegno del musicista fiorentino nell’andare incontro alle aspettative e ai gusti, sia degli interpreti, sia del pubblico, del nuovo mondo, lontanissimi da quelli nei quali si era formato, e comunque senza smarrire le sue matrici culturali, artistiche e musicali. Infatti, le forme, la scrittura pianistica e la sapienza dell’autore appaiono imperturbate, pur nel cambio di rotta, e ad esse si aggiunge talvolta il divertimento ironico del raffinato umanista toscano che osservava la fatuità del divismo cinematografico con un atteggiamento affettuoso e compassionevole.

This volume collects three compositions for piano written by Castelnuovo-Tedesco during his voluntary exile in the USA. In them, one can observe the Florentine master’s commitment to accommodating the tastes and expectations of both the performers and audiences of this new world, far from the one that shaped him, yet without losing sight of his own cultural, artistic and musical roots. Indeed, the forms and approach to piano composition appear uncompromised, despite the change of direction. Rather, it gains the amused irony of the urbane Tuscan humanist, who looked upon the frivolity of the Hollywood star system with affection and insight.

La collana prevede la pubblicazione di tutte le composizioni ancora inedite conservate presso la Library of Congress di Washington, conformemente ai manoscritti originali. Ogni volume è redatto in italiano e inglese.

Edizioni Curci, in association with Cidim, Comitato nazionale italiano musica (Italian National Music Committee), is proud to present The Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco Collection, the first series ever published entirely dedicated to the composer from Florence (1895-1968) who settled in the United States, where he became known as “the Maestros’ Maestro”. The collection is edited by Angelo Gilardino, composer and scholar, who enjoys the full confidence of the Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s estate. The collection will present all of the musician’s as yet unpublished works, which are housed at the Library of Congress in Washington DC, according to the original manuscripts. Each volume has both Italian and English commentaries.
